Applying my Prosthetic Piece

This is my step by step to how I applied my prosthetic piece.

I first coloured my face in the white, for the snow, around my eyes, round my cheeks and my chin. The gap you see is where my piece will fit on my face.

From there I filled my eyelids and under my eye with black. This is representing the snowman’s eyes that we use stones or buttons for.  Looking back I would change the eyes and make them slightly smaller, I feel they are a little too big for my face.

Once I was happy with the texture of my white and my eyes I then added my prosthetic nose and cheeks piece.

To attach my piece I used prosade, which is a watery substance that you apply with a brush onto the part of your skin you would like your piece setting. I also brushed some onto my prosthetic piece then carefully placed it onto my face, fitting it on and holding until the prosade reacted with itself and stuck.

From here I had to use a cotton bud and go round the edges of my piece and stick them down to they wouldn’t peel away.

Once it was all stuck down I could go round my edges dabbing the white colouring round to blend it with my face. When I was happy with my blending and with my piece I added the black dots to create my snowman mouth.

Cut & Sew

Cut & Sew: this is me practicing on my brother,

I learnt this today in my Special Effects (sfx) lesson, I practice at home so I can correct and improve on my work.

This is done with latex and wax, I create a worm like strip of wax and blend the side onto the skin, I then layer latex over the top so the wax can stay on and not peel off.

Once the layers of latex are dried I then carefully cut the latex and wax to create a ‘deep cut’ look. I place blood and wound filler into the cut to create the look of the skin has come away and you can see the insides of the arm.

After this I carefully stitch the cut back up with a needle and thread, I used one from a sewing kit. Stitching the latex and wax together then applying blood around the cut on the skin.

I am pleased with this outcome; it is my second attempt of the cut and my first attempt of the stitching. And big thank you to my brother for letting me practice my sfx on him.
